Neighborhood history:

Recoleta is a central residential neighborhood of Buenos Aires that possess great historical and architectural interest, also known as “La Paris Argentina”, due to its great French influence and its consequent architecture.

The Recoleta neighborhood has its origins in the Franciscan order of the Recoletos Convent that settled in the area at the beginning of the 18th century. The monks created a convent, a cemetery and the Church of Our Lady of Pilar.

At the end of the 19th century, the yellow fever epidemic attracted the wealthiest families to the neighborhood, which was located at one of the highest and safest points in the city. From that moment the neighborhood became one of the most elegant and expensive places in Buenos Aires.

The neighborhood stands out for its historical monuments and its great cultural spaces of great interest to all those who wish to visit Buenos Aires.

Culture is present in this ancient neighborhood, from its buildings of yesteryear, to the beautiful talks in its historic cafes, places frequented by icons of Argentine literature, such as Jorge Luis Borges, Adolfo Bioy Casares, Ernesto Sábato, and also emblems of Argentine sports such as Juan Manuel Fangio and Jorge Newbery, among others.

From this beautiful place we can contemplate the Plaza Francia, designed by the great landscape architect Charles Thays; as well as glimpse the Pilar Church, which was in turn the foundation stone of this neighborhood, the Cemetery, where prominent figures of Argentine history reside; although the true beauty of the neighborhood can be discovered walking and going through each of its quiet corners, parks and lively streets, such as Avenida Alvear.
