DOWNTOWN

Neighborhood history:

Known as Microcentro (Little Center), the financial center of Buenos Aires is considered by porteños as one of the city’s neighborhoods despite lacking official recognition as a neighborhood.

The area is made up of approximately 60 blocks that are full of offices, shops and banks. It is bordered by Avenida Córdoba and Avenida de Mayo.

Despite being the most central neighborhood in Buenos Aires, Microcentro has hardly any inhabitants, since most of the buildings are dedicated to offices. It is estimated that almost 4 million people work in this area, so it is usually fairly busy during business hours.

The central neighborhood of Microcentro is an area very popular with tourists due to its enormous appeal. Among the places that can be visited in the neighborhood are the Plaza de Mayo, the Manzana de las Luces, the Church of San Ignacio de Loyola and the City Museum.
